Enjoy the weekend!

The other day I accomplished everything except getting to the library.
I had planned on making the next day "movie day" but I’ve been busy up until this afternoon.
I’m not sure if Friday TV is any good. I’m a Monday night fan.
So, tonight is going to be movie night. Usually I rent DVDs but, at our library yard sale I got a bunch of VHS tapes of old movies that I like, so, tonight it will be, Dirty Dancing, (very sexy), Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls, Lady Hawke, Tremors, and Stargate the movie.

I managed to save a few pieces of banana bread, and I’m popping the popcorn. Grab a seat… do you like butter on your popcorn? What can I get you to drink?

BIG HUGS, Steph

OH, recipes below… enjoy!

HONEY OATMEAL ROLLS

3 Cups very warm water
1/2 Cup veg. oil
1/2 Cup honey
1 Tablespoon salt
2 Tablespoons yeast
1 1/2 Cups uncooked, quick style oatmeal
Approx 6-8 Cups of unbleached all purpose flour

In a large mixing bowl add the warm water, oil, honey, salt and yeast. Let it sit approx 5 minutes. You should see bubbles and froth on the top.
Mix in the uncooked oatmeal and the flour, (adding the flour 1 cup at a time)
The amount of flour varies depending on humidity and your altitude.
I mix mine in my kitchenAid mixer and usually add it until the dough starts to form a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. If you are mixing and kneading by hand… the dough should be slightly sticky.
Coat the inside of a bowl with oil. Add dough and turn so that the dough has a light coating of oil. Cover bowl and let rise, till doubled in size. (I punch it down and let it rise twice if I have the extra time)
Punch down the dough. Butter or grease a 9×13 pan. Break off small amounts of the dough and form into a smooth ball. Add to the pan. Once it’s filled, let them rise about half way, and bake at 350 for approx 20 minutes.
This makes approx 2-3 dozen rolls.

WHIPPED CREAM FROSTING

1 small box, 3.9 oz., instant chocolate pudding (I use chocolate fudge flavor)
1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
1 pint whipping cream
1-2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup powdered sugar

In a large mixing bowl, beat on slow speed, the 1 cup of milk and package of instant pudding, until well mixed.

Add the pint of whipping cream, and whip on high speed, adding the vanilla extract and powdered sugar.
Continue whipping until it forms stiff peaks.
Refrigerate approx 1/2-1 hours.
This frosts one cake, IF your kids don’t eat it before you frost the cake. lol

What?!  Not sure Friday TV is any good?  When Friday Night Lights has been moved to Friday?  Only the best thing on TV.  For untold aeons, Friday night TV was almost stunningly bad; but now, in one swift movement, they have raised it to the best night.  Monday is good – and if Old Cristine comes back, will be even better, but nothing else on TV comes close to FNL.  And amazingly it is a lot of football, praying and Texas, three things I can totally do without – only somehow they have strung this all together into a great show; partly because of having really fine actors.  To attract female viewers, I have read, they cut back on the football this year – a mistake in my opinion, since it is kind of the lynchpin; it is all about how in a small town, the high school football heroes are the only thing that matters, and yesterday\’s heroes are SO over; it is a totally great show, with people dealing with tough issues – even Alzheimer\’s.  I detect a tiny bit of soap creeping in this season; and an unfortunate plotline has brought a killing to pass (although this had the fortunate side effect of enlarging the role of one kid who I have liked from day one – a guy who is NOT a football guy [this year he finally made the team but is not very good at it] but who is great at playing an average-lloking guy who is largely clueless, yet kind of good hearted and quite funny).  Nothing on Friday night – pshaw!

    Steph,

If that gentleman last week was so insistent about your cake baking prowess, maybe you should try baking a few and selling them to see if that might be a small business opportunity?! Perhaps a local market might carry one or two for a couple of days to see how they do and what reaction comes of it.

Kids eat it before you frost the cake?  Hubby wanted some frosting fun this afternoon during half-time.  WTF?  At dinner, my son asked why there wasn\’t any frosting on the cake.  I could only answer him with a blush.

So um, yeah, loved that recipe 😉

***DB enters with flashlight as it\’s unusually dark on Kitty\’s space…. he has unfortunately got separated from his female companion and there\’s this spooky music playing***  Hello….? … Kitty…? … are you there…?

***DB steps in something sticky and stoops down to inspect what it is**** hhhhmmmmmm….. it\’s oatmeal-y and honey-ey **it\’s apparent that DB\’s not the sharpest pencil in the box and his grasp of the english language is not too hot either but we will forgive him… because he IS hot***

Unusual but incredibly tasty… ***DB spies some video boxes and traces of popcorn further on.  He picks up one of the videos and recoils in horror when he sees the image of Patrick Swayze peering out at him from one of the covers.***

AAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHH Sh*t…. this is serious.  I fear that Kitty may have lost all rational thinking and had her brain scrambled by \’The Swayze\’ and his jiggly hips…

***DB starts to run through the corridors of Kitty\’s blog calling out her name when he hears a scream that makes his blood run cold…. racing on he turns a corner and sees a body on the floor in the distance.  Approaching with caution, he sees the body is covered by an eerie glow… and when he sees Kitty\’s face he knows he\’s too late.  Her face is contorted into an expression of sheer bliss and she burbles… \’He\’s gorgeous…\’. Suddenly the light flickers and DB realises what\’s causing the glow…  it\’s the television behind him and the tape is still playing… as DB recoils in horror, he realises his fate is sealed…. and as the cheesy 80\’s synth pop begins and the immortal words \’Now IIIIIIII\’ve had the time of my liiiiiiiiiife…\’ fill the room… DB collapses to the floor writhing in agony, clutching his head.  It\’s as though nails are being hammered in to it…  and then his head explodes with a big gloopy \’BLOP\’***

****Cut to DB waking with a start in his bed, sitting bolt upright… sweat glistening on his impossibly perfect chest… (see…. told you he was hot).  He glances at the clock which reads 03:12****

\’Fudge!!!…. (I thought saying shit and fuck in the same comment was a bit too much especially as I don\’t know who normally reads your blog and people might be offended… or you might be offended even… but I just said it… Shit… oh bollocks…. fuck ***clasps hands over mouth***  I am SO sorry…. honest…. I\’ll just carry on with the story….)

***DB pulls back the covers and slips into his Winnie the Pooh dressing gown and slippers set. He stumbles towards the living room… a shot of the hard stuff would clear his head… you could always rely on cranberry juice to chase the demons away. As he approaches the door though he hears voices… from under the door comes a flickering light…. the same light from his dream… as he opens the door, the face of Jiggly Swayze leers at him from the television.  The last thing DB hears above his own wretched screaming are the words… \’Nobody puts baby in the corner…..\’***

    Overactive imagination?…. Me?…. Never….

    ***Hugs***

I am SO sorry for your loss Steph… The devastating effects of jazz hands are detailled in your heart-breaking story and I thank you for sharing it with us.  I\’m sure that it will be of some comfort to those experiencing similar emotions and help them to realise that they are not alone in their suffering.

If you\’ll allow me to share one of my experiences… It was a thursday evening and the family was gathered for supper around the dining room table.  Mother was in the kitchen preparing the meal… to start, she had prepared tomato soup… all ingredients fresh out of the can… she could work wonders with a tin opener…  ***wipes tear away***  Having heated it through thoroughly, she brought the first two bowls through for father and my elder brother.  As she approached the table, the Jazz Hands struck… it was so distressing… there was soup everywhere…. all up the walls, all over my mother and all over us…. she was never the same after that and I haven\’t been able to touch tomato soup since… which is a bit of a bugger because it was a particular favourite of mine…

On a lighter note, I\’ve spoken to Vin and he said he\’ll be round in the next couple of days to give you a good seeing to… Please don\’t thank me… it\’s the least I can do…. I\’m quite disappointed in your choice of male impregnation though but as someone once said… \’Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder\’… and what you\’re doing drinking so early in the morning I shall not ask…

Catch ya later you croc dodger you…

    ***hugs***

Awesome recipe. Do you make the frosting in your Kitchen Aid mixer or do you do that using a hand mixer or even a whisk? I would be worried that the Kitchenaid would overmix it. Is that a realistic concern?
